The perfect words ..... le parole perfette

"E tu come stai?

Yesterday my cousin's daughter gave birth to her daughter.  We are very close even if we are now not very close relatives and we are far away (they don't live in Italy).

When they told me that S. went into hospital to give birth I started to feel the anxiety!

I prayed that everything would go well.  I asked my little baby to protect S. and accompany her little girl into her arms alive and screaming.

After a little while I recieved the phone call announcing the birth.  I asked how everyone is then I congratulate them.

I was relieved that everything went well.  The anxiety vanished and I smile a half smile.

Yep "Half" a smile.

After that I recieve a foto of the little one.  I was lovingly looking for the similarities with her mum and dad.  I had still had my half smile.

I sent the photo to a relative.  I'm not that fond of this relative.  Well really.... to tell the truth I'm not fond of her at all for things that happened in the past.

Having commented the beauty of the new arrival.  she uses the perfect words.  Words that I didn't expect.

"And how are you? These events leave you with a lump in your throat I suppose"

YES!

The half smile becomes a full smile.

I say that I am fine.  The lump is there.... that I'm relieved...... but not jealous.  When a new baby arrives you realise what you're missing.

I didn't think that this person would have remembered and was aware of what could have been my feelings after such an event.
