Pasqua.... Easter...

Emozionante.
Da tre anni mi chiedo....perchè io no?

Even this third Easter without Thea has passed.

I live in a small Sicilian village.  Every Easter there is what is called the "invontro" (meeting).  It's a religious festival that's very beautiful and emotional to watch.  Everytime..... in these three years I seem to empathize with the characters.  The statue of S. Michele is carried on shoulder and goes from The statue of Christ Risen to the Virgin Mary telling her that her son is alive.  He does it three times.  In the end the Virgin Mary believes him and the statues of the Virgin Mary and Christ Risen on shoulder start to run from the two exstramities for a long street to then meet in the middle of it.  The Virgin Mary has a black cape, seeing her son she takes off her black cape and has a beautiful light blue one underneath.  They meet.... mother and son.... they make their statues"dance".  It's emotional.  It had been three years that I ask myself.... why not me?  I know..... I could never compare myself to the Virgin Mary.  Thea could never be campared to Jesus...... but I want what they have.  That resurection.....I would wnat to have it.  I would like to find Thea alive running at my open arms to never let her go.

martedì 1 aprile 2014

E' da un po' che ci penso. I've been thinking about it for a while.

Poi penso a me.

Certo i miei figli soffrivano vedere me piangere e soffrire.

Mamma imperfetta.

I've been thinking about what I've read on the internet.  I've read it quite a lot really.

I'm talking about the way some babyloss parents don't want to cry in front of their children.  Maybe because they don't want to upset them.  Maybe because seeing mummy crying in front of them is also a sort of tabu'.  Mummy has to show her children that she doesn't suffer and that she is strong.  It makes my heart go tender thinking that a mother has to grieve ...... in little installments.  What a mother doesn't do to not make her children suffer!

I then think about me.  About my personal story.  About they way I am, about my children and the way I was  with them when I lost Thea.

I didn't save them from my tears.  They saw me without a smile on my face for at least 6 months.  I didn't go out even when they asked me to.  When they asked me why I was crying I would tell them that I miss your little sister and that's why I can't stop crying.

I have been thinking about how I was.  I think about the way I was with them.  Maybe I was egoistic.  I looked at my needs.  I did what I felt like doing.  I wasn't thinking about what their reactions could have been at seeing me cry.

Now I ask myself if I did right following my instinct and reacted in this way.

Well..... my answer is a timid Yes!  I think I did right.  Yes my children did suffer seeing me cry and in pain.  Seeing that mother figure that they thought invinceable ..... be nulled.....  But what they saw was the truth.  Life.  They saw how it can be cruel..... they saw how some things can really hurt.  That not everything is beautiful and we don't always smile.

They really began to suffer when they first knew that their little sister was gone forever.  My tears were just a confirmation for them that we react badly after a bad thing happens to us.

They then saw their mummy remember their little sister in every way she possibly could.  They also took part in that in a very natural and not forced into it  way.  They saw their mummy slowly picking herself up.  That slowly started to smile again.  Even they learnt to see hearts, butterflies and angles everywhere.  I see them looking at the sky every now and then.  I wonder if they're talking to Thea as I do.  They have seen that after a storm the sun comes out and it makes a rainbow.  They don't know what a rainbow baby is.... and I'm not talking about that kind of rainbow.  What I'm talking about is life.... at that way of looking at things in colour instead of that dull grey that has kept me company for a long time.

I also thought ..... how could my children be with their friends?  What if one of their friends or someone they know loses a baby in pregnancy, what would my children say?  "You're esagerated! why are you crying so much? The same thing happened to my mum and she didn't make such a fuss!"  or "It happened to my mum.  She cryed so much.  I'm so sorry.  I know what it's like to lose someone this way.  I'm here for you."

I really hope my little men will feel it in their hearts to say the second part.  I really hope they don't ever have to say it.... but if life puts them on the path of who needs them I hope that they will hold out their hand and will offer their shoulder to cry on.

An Imperfect Mother.
